The Coalition for Kidney Supportive Care is proud to announce the official launch of the Vanguard Program, which recognizes distinguished researchers, clinicians, and advocates dedicated to advancing holistic, patient-centered care for those living with kidney disease.
Vanguards serve as essential partners, leading one-year projects designed to expand the evidence base and improve clinical practice globally.
Our Inaugural Vanguard
We are thrilled to welcome our first Vanguard, Jovina Bachynski, PhD, NP, and her multidisciplinary team representing the Canadian Association of Nephrology Nurses and Technologists (CANNT).
Dr. Bachynski’s team—comprising experienced renal social workers and nursing experts—will spearhead a project titled "CoMP Workshop: Conversations that Matter to Patients".
Project Highlights:
- Mission: To empower nephrology nurses with greater comfort and confidence in navigating Advance Care Planning (ACP) and goals-of-care discussions.
- Format: An interactive, simulation-based pilot workshop developed by frontline clinicians for frontline clinicians. The workshop will be presented at the CANNT National Conference in October 2026.
- Impact: Through pre- and post-survey evaluations, the team aims to create a scalable model for future nurse education in kidney supportive care.
A Growing International Network
By connecting with global innovators like Dr. Bachynski and CANNT through the Vanguard Program, the Coalition continues to bridge the gap between research and bedside care.
“The Vanguard Program amplifies our mission to advance holistic care for those affected by kidney disease. It's another exciting way that we are building an international coalition for kidney supportive care." - says Matthew Ryan, Coalition Program Lead.
