ExPAND study: Expanding and Promoting Alternative Care and Knowledge in Decision-making

The ExPAND Project, led by Coalition executive members Dr. Dale Lupu and Dr. Alvin "Woody" Moss, aims to educate, empower, and support older adults with kidney disease, regardless of their chosen treatment option. 

As part of the ExPAND Project, the research team has collaborated with international kidney disease experts and patient advocates to develop a suite of Kidney Disease Education (KDE) resources designed to encourage effective, shared decision-making. Clinicians may use these KDE materials in their own practice.

  1. Patient-facing KDE Presentation
    This multimedia presentation describes kidney disease and its treatment options to patients. This education was developed the material is comprehensive, informative and approachable.

  2. Patient-facing Active Medical Care without Dialysis Video
    This short (<3 minutes) video educates older adults with kidney disease on Active Medical Care without Dialysis as a treatment option.

    This succinct yet informative handout (one page, front and back) helps patients with kidney disease understand and weight their treatment options.
