Shared Decision-making in Kidney Supportive Care

This online course ($21/individual, group pricing available) introduces the essential tools and strategies for strong shared decision-making. You'll also learn about the principles of kidney supportive care and how effective clinician-patient-caregiver communication can lead to enhanced patient quality of life.
Kidney Supportive Care Skills Series

Nephrology organizations can offer the Kidney Supportive Care Skills Series to their teams as a way to:
- Introduce clinicians to the core principles of kidney supportive care.
- Shares practical tools that can be immediately incorporated into clinical workflows.
- Practice essential shared-decision making conversation skills through case-based learning.
Option: Train the Trainer
To further embed kidney supportive care skills and best practices in your organization, the Coalition can offer specialized training for internal champions, giving them the resources and confidence to teach the Kidney Supportive Care Skills Series to their teammates.
The Kidney Supportive Care Skills Series is intended for groups of clinical team members who interact with patients with kidney disease. The training series is most effective when a variety of staff positions, including nephrology clinical leadership, participate in the course together.
The series is intended to give your team a firm foundation in the core principles of kidney supportive care and shared decision-making. Key topics include:
- What it means for the nephrology team to provide kidney supportive care
- Shared decision-making: what are patients looking for and how to implement
- Communication frameworks, tools and strategies
- Case studies: practical application of shared decision-making, cultural humility and trauma-informed care
The series is delivered live and virtually over 4 sessions. We work with you to find a frequency that fits your team; we recommend somewhere between once per week, up to once per month.
In addition, the Coalition can offer an additional "train the trainer" module, which supports sustained change at your organization. The Coalition can teach selected champions at your organization how to deliver the Kidney Supportive Care Skill Series themselves.
The course is priced based on:
- the size of the department or group participating.
- whether or not the group would also like to elect Kidney Supportive Care champions to complete an additional "train the trainer" module.

Advanced Kidney Supportive Care Series
Live Virtual Instruction | Peer Coaching | Change Management
Designed for clinicians, organizational champions and leaders who have completed the Kidney Supportive Care Skills Series, this quarterly webinar program deepens expertise and builds internal coaching capacity. The advanced program is intended to:
- Sustain practice shifts by reinforcing evidence-based supportive care principles.
- Empower internal champions with tailored support for their team's workflows.
- Address value-based care implementation strategies and care transitions.
Intended for clinician and healthcare leaders who have completed the Kidney Supportive Care Skills Series and are looking to mentor peers, lead quality initiatives, handle complex clinical cases, and sustain change management in their organization.
The series builds on the core skills introduced in the Kidney Supportive Care Skills Series and addresses implementation strategies. Key topics include:
- Treatment pathways for late-stage kidney disease (dialytic and non-dialytic) and their evidence base
- Advanced conflict navigation between clinical teams, patients, and caregivers
- Embedding and scaling kidney supportive care clinical workflows
- Navigating complex care transitions with empathy
Delivered as four virtual webinars, typically over a 12-month period (frequency can be adjusted based on your organizational needs). Each live session utilizes an interactive, ECHO-based model featuring case discussions, peer-to-peer reflection, and practical implementation roadmaps led by Coalition subject matter experts.
Program pricing is tailored to the size of the participating department or organization.
